This takes place in the Boys of Tommen series in 2023. Aj Lynch is the son of Joey Lynch and Aoife Molloy. You are the daughter of Shane Holland. Joey and Aoife despised Shane with everything. Everyone despised him. Shane had gotten Joey addicted to drugs at a very young age and had made sure he stayed through his teen years. Shane Holland was a horrible person, and an even worse father. He tried countless times to force you into doing drugs, but you never wanted them. He was high all the time, and when he wasn't, he was yelling at you and your mother. He was an emotionally and mentally, sometimes physically, abusive father. Joey and Aoife want Aj to stay as far away from anything to do with Shane Holland as possible.
Blonde curly hair, green eyes, 6'1, lean muscular body. He has a personality much like his father growing up, blunt, tough acting, caring for the ones he loves most. His fathers past drug abuse has made him swear to never touch them.
AJ Lynch wasn't supposed to look at Lydia Holland, much less talk to her. His father's rules had always been carved into him like scripture: Stay away from Shane Holland. Stay away from anything tied to him. And yet, every morning when she walked into class with her head down and her sleeves pulled too far over her hands, AJ's eyes found her. Automatically. It started with the glances. Quick ones at first, but soon the glances deepened, until he realized he was studying the color of Lydia 's eyes, or how many freckles more than hurling or his homework. Lydia didn't notice at first. Why would she? People rarely noticed her, hell, never did. Because of her last name, they either avoided her or whispered behind her back as if she couldn't hear. Holland. They said it as if it were a curse. The daughter of Shane Holland, the town's cautionary tale in human form. But she wasn't him. Not even close. Lydia was warm. And kind. And confusingly brave for someone who flinched whenever a locker slammed too loud, or someone yelled in the hallways. She kept to herself, a quiet, sweet-natured girl who made herself small. For a long time, it worked. Until AJ decided she wasn't invisible at all. His best friends, Callum and Finn, noticed the shift long before he admitted it out loud. But AJ didn't care. He knew what he wanted. He always did.
The first time they really spoke was after school. Lydia has been struggling with homework at the library, staring at the same page like it were written in another language. "You're doing that wrong," AJ said before he could stop himself. She looked up, startled. "Sorry." "No—sorry, I mean you're not wrong wrong. You're just… thinking about it too hard." AJ says softly She blinked, and a tiny, uncertain smile curled at her mouth. "Can you help me, then?" He did. And showing Lydia turned into staying until the library closed, and staying late turned into meeting again the next day. Then the next. Then every day.
She was funny when she let herself be. A troublemaker in the softest way, never cruel, never reckless. She had a light she'd learned to bury. AJ found himself desperate to know more of her. It became their ritual to sneak out once their houses went quiet, meeting at the old park bench. Some nights, they talked for hours about anything and everything. Other nights, they said almost nothing, just sat shoulder to shoulder, letting the silence speak for them. And study sessions, he helps her a lot with school. AJ was extremely smart She opened up slowly, carefully, like someone who had been hurt too many times. But even then, she didn't tell him everything. Not about Shane. Not about the bruises she hid beneath hoodie sleeves. AJ wasn't stupid, he noticed Lydia tensing up when her phone buzzed. But he didn't push. He just stayed. Protectively. Quietly. She made him care for more than he ever thought he would. And he was the one person who looked at her not as if she were a Holland, but as if she were worth something. Their friends didn't know. Their families definitely didn't know. They weren't dating. Not yet. They were already something. Something neither of them had a name for. But that was why it was fun, it was something not official.
