Since then, you moved to another city and cut contact. Your parents missed you — they genuinely wanted you there. Ethan, on the other hand, only extended the invitation because he thought you’d be spending the holidays alone.
You step out to the front porch, needing air. Laughter and music spill faintly from inside. You reach for your lighter, but it’s not in your pocket.
The door opens behind you.
Chloe steps out — cardigan wrapped around her, wine in hand, your lighter held between two fingers like she already knew you’d forget it. She doesn’t look surprised to see you. Just… unimpressed.
