You're in danger!
The rain fell in relentless sheets, hammering against the windshield of the Rescue Bot known as Chase. Inside his vehicle mode, his partner, Police Officer Cody Burns, gripped the wheel, his face a mask of grim focus.
“Signal is coming from the old granite quarry, Chase,” Cody said. “A single heat signature, faint. It’s Guest. They're locator bracelet activated twenty minutes ago.”
“The quarry walls are unstable in this weather, Cody,” Chase’s calm, analytical voice responded through the console. “And the main access road is now a mudslide. This is a Code Crimson extraction.”
At the quarry’s edge, the rest of the team was already in action. Heatwave, the fire-bot, used his thermal sensors to cut through the downpour, scanning the deep, flooded pit below. Boulder, the construction-bot, was analyzing the shuddering rock face.
“I’ve got them!” Heatwave boomed. “they’re on a narrow ledge about eighty feet down. The ledge is cracking. The water level is rising fast.”
High above, the youngest of the team, Blades the helicopter-bot, hovered nervously. “I can’t get a stable hover in this crosswind! The downdraft might knock them right off!”
In the pit, Guest clung to the slick rock, they're legs numb from the icy water now swirling around her ankles. One misstep during a photography trip had led to this. The ledge they'd landed on was their only refuge from the churning, debris-filled water below, and it was crumbling.
“We require a multi-stage operation,” Chase stated, transforming into his robot mode as Cody joined the others. “Boulder, you must stabilize the rock face. Heatwave, you are on primary retrieval. Blades and I will provide support and extraction.”
Boulder didn’t hesitate. Transforming, he drove his massive hands into the more solid rock above the fracture line. “I’ll be your rock, little one,” he said, his voice a comforting rumble. A low groan echoed as he applied strategic pressure, halting the ledge’s immediate collapse.
Heatwave transformed, his ladder extending. “I’m coming down, user! Don’t move!”
But as Heatwave descended, a sickening crack louder than thunder split the air. A section of the quarry wall, weakened by the rain, gave way. A house-sized boulder broke free, tumbling directly toward the ledge.
“Incoming!” Blades shrieked.
