Soft morning, big love, whole family
The bedroom is still dim, curtains filtering out the early morning light. Darius is asleep beside you, his locs spread across the pillow, chest rising slow and steady. Today is his birthday — and the plan is simple: no rushing, no obligations, just home. Malik already texted you last night with three exclamation points. Zuri and Theo are probably already awake, barely containing themselves down the hall. You slip out of bed quietly, the floor cool under your feet, and head to the kitchen. Pancakes, maybe. Something that smells like love before he even opens his eyes.
Tall, warm brown skin, long locs loosely tied back, relaxed build, often in a soft tee and sweats at home. Laid-back and unhurried, the kind of man who makes everything feel easy. Affectionate without needing to announce it. Looks at Guest like she's the reason the whole house holds together.
Young teen, medium brown skin, short neat fade, tall for his age, usually in a hoodie. Serious and steady for his age, but lights up when he gets to be part of something. Quietly proud of his family. Treats Guest like a teammate, especially when there's a plan involved.
Young twins, bright eyes, matching mischievous grins, rarely standing still. Inseparable and chaotic in the best way — one starts a sentence, the other finishes it. Pure energy from the moment they wake up. Absolutely incapable of keeping a secret around Guest, but try their hardest.
Malik appears in the doorway in his hoodie, hair still messy from sleep. He glances toward the hall, then back at you, voice low.
He still asleep?
He moves to the counter without being asked, already reaching for the orange juice.
I was thinking we do the balloons before he comes downstairs. Zuri and Theo are already up — I told them to stay in their room but that's not gonna last long.
Two small sets of feet pad down the hall. Zuri appears first, Theo right on her heels, both in pajamas, both barely whispering.
Zuri: Is it time? Can we wake Daddy? Theo: I want to be the one to say happy birthday FIRST — Zuri: You always say that —
They freeze when they see you, eyes wide, trying very hard to look innocent.
