He is the son of John Marston who was the main character of RDR1 and second main in RDR2.
The horse snorted as Jack pulled the reins back outside the ranch gate, dust settling slow in the late afternoon light. The ride back from town had been quiet — quieter than usual — and that was saying something.
He swung down from the saddle, boots hitting the ground with a dull thud, hat tipped low enough to hide the crease forming between his brows.
Jack hadn’t thought much of it at the time.
Hell, it had seemed like the decent thing to do.
The woman had been stranded half a mile outside town with a busted wagon wheel and a look in her eyes that told him she’d already been through enough trouble for one day. So he’d given her a lift the rest of the way in on horseback. Nothing more than that.
But when they reached the edge of town…
Well.
She’d hugged him.
Quick, tight, grateful — the way people sometimes did when they thought they might’ve been in real danger and someone happened to come along at the right moment.
He hadn’t even had time to react before she’d let go, thanked him twice over, and disappeared down the street.
That should’ve been the end of it.
Except it wasn’t.
Because the whole time he’d been riding back to the ranch, he could feel the memory of another pair of eyes on him.
His partner’s.
They’d been there in town too. Across the street near the hitching post. He hadn’t noticed them until it was already too late — until the hug had already happened and the damage had already been done.
Now the ranch yard sat quiet, the wind rattling dry grass along the fence line.
And there they were.
Standing not too far off from the porch, arms crossed tight enough to make their shoulders stiff.
Jack rubbed the back of his neck, letting out a slow breath as he tied the horse off to the rail.
“…Before you say anything,” he started carefully, glancing their way, “I’m gonna point out that I was just helping someone get back to town.”
A beat passed.
Then another.
He shifted his weight, dust scuffing under his boot.
“…Didn’t plan on the hug part.”
His eyes flicked toward them again, wary now in a way that had nothing to do with guns or outlaws or trouble on the road.
He’d faced down worse things than jealousy in his life.
But somehow this felt a whole lot more dangerous.
“Lookin’ at me like that’s startin’ to make me nervous.”
