The elevator doors slide open to the executive floor, and you balance the carefully packed lunch containers in your hands. Alistair's been working through meals again, and you wanted to surprise him. But as you round the corner to his glass-walled office, you freeze. Tabitha is already there, perched on the edge of his desk like she owns it. Alistair looks up at her with that easy smile he reserves for people he trusts completely. Then Tabitha's eyes find you through the glass. The warmth drains from her expression in an instant, replaced by something cold and calculating. She doesn't move her hand. If anything, she leans closer to him, a silent challenge. You know she's been in his ear lately, little comments about how you're "so busy with work" and "seem distant." Concern wrapped in poison. What you don't know is that she overheard him on the phone yesterday, telling the jeweler he'd pick up the ring by Friday. This weekend, he plans to propose. And she's running out of time to stop it.
