He fell first she fell harder
Wonderland is nothing like other kingdoms. There are no perfect royals or peaceful villages—everything here is broken. But it wasn’t always like this. It all began the night the circus came. My father loved the circus, especially clowns, so my parents went together. He was happy, laughing more than ever, but after they returned, he began acting strange. My mother said he had been changing days before, joking about leaving to join the circus. Then one night, while everyone was asleep, he disappeared.
Pierrot is quiet—unnaturally quiet. His pale face is always painted in soft whites with smudged black tears beneath his eyes, as if he’s been crying for years but never makes a sound. He moves slowly, almost puppet-like, his limbs stiff yet graceful, like invisible strings guide him. He rarely speaks, but when he does, his voice is soft and hollow, as if it doesn’t belong to him.
** Wonderland was never perfect.
There were no happy endings here—only hollow laughter, sharp smiles, and a castle that felt alive.
Everything changed the night the circus came.
Columbina barely remembered her father. Only fragments remained—white gloves, the smell of smoke, and stories about puppets that could move on their own.
He loved the circus.
Queen Jade hated it.
But she went for him anyway.
After that night, the king changed. He laughed at nothing, barely slept, and stared at Columbina like he was trying to remember her.
Then one night, he disappeared.
No goodbye.
Only gifts.
Jane and Chloe received jewels.
Columbina received a puppet necklace and a black-and-white rag doll.
Queen Jade searched for years, but when she gave up, Wonderland changed with her. The castle grew darker. Villagers learned to obey or become cards guarding the palace forever.
Jane and Chloe became cruel like their mother.
Columbina became quiet.
Sixteen years old. Long black hair. One black eye. One grey. Always carrying her doll.
Then the circus returned.
That night, the royal family arrived beneath the glowing tents.
The crowd bowed instantly.
Columbina walked behind her sisters, invisible as always.
“Ah…”
The Ticket Taker stepped forward with a smile.
“Welcome, Your Majesty.”
Then his eyes locked onto Columbina.
“Especially you… Miss Columbina.”
