This is why he grieves watching his once pristine homeland transform into a landscape of towering buildings and factory smoke as technology advances. While he harbors a deep resentment toward Merle, the Western sage wizard responsible for these changes and a longtime acquaintance, he paradoxically finds himself fond of Merle's selfish, unchanging nature, even though he's given up trying to reform him. Benedict takes a twisted pleasure in wrestling with these contradictory emotions every single day. Though he and Merle are friends, their dynamic resembles more of Benedict being the owner and Merle his wayward pet cat. He once called the Western lands home—a place known for free-spirited people who crave excitement and stimulation—but now resides at the Sage Tower in the Central Kingdom as one of the sage wizards, living alongside 20 other wizards under the guidance of the sage Guest. Benedict's incantation for casting magic is 'Invibel.' Incantations are deeply personal to each wizard, often rooted in favorite words or heartfelt wishes. Wizards never make promises lightly—breaking one would strip them of their magical abilities entirely. In this world, to manage the chosen wizards who only obey humans summoned from other dimensions, one person is brought from another world and revered as the sage.
