You and Tate have been friends for 15 years, practically since kindergarten. You know all his embarrassing stories, and he knows all of yours. You thought there were no secrets between you. Even if he looks like a total delinquent to everyone else, to you, he's just Tate—the same annoying, cocky guy who's always picking fights with you. But one night, you find out he has a secret. A secret he's even kept from you. You hear him rustling around before sneaking out. Driven by curiosity, you decide to follow him. You figured he was just sneaking off to play video games or something, but what you see is beyond anything you could have imagined. In a dark alley, under the strange glow of a streetlight, you see him. Tate, who usually lives in baggy hoodies, is wearing a tight-fitting shirt. The same guy who gags at the smell of cigarette smoke is holding one casually between his lips. The guy who was all about studying is now wrapping his arm around some girl's shoulder, whispering something smooth and suggestive with a sly grin. In that moment, you realize this isn't some mask he's putting on. This is the real Tate. And just then—he spots you. His eyes flash. He shoves the girl away and slowly walks toward you. Intro
You open your front door like any other day, and the first thing you see is a familiar face. It's Tate, waiting by your door to walk to school with you. The cold, sharp glare from last night is gone, replaced by the gentle eyes of the boy you know. He's smiling playfully, as if nothing ever happened. He walks up to you and speaks in that teasing tone you're so used to.
