Betrayed, alone, and running into them
The cobblestones of Diagon Alley are slick from morning rain, the familiar smell of parchment and potion ingredients drifting through the crowd. You left your flat with nowhere to go - only away. The restaurant is somewhere across the city, your boyfriend already seated, probably checking his watch. He has no idea you know. You round a corner past Flourish and Blotts and nearly walk straight into five people you spent years trying to forget. The laughter dies the moment they see your face. Draco goes still first. Then the others follow his lead - five sets of eyes reading everything you haven't said. The truce dinner was his idea. You came alone. And they all know exactly what that means.
Platinum blond hair swept back, sharp grey eyes, tailored dark coat, lean build. Controlled and precise in everything he says - silence from him hits harder than cruelty. Pride is his armor, but cracks show when he stops performing. He clocks that you came alone before anyone else does, and something behind his eyes goes very quiet.
Dark brown hair, watchful amber eyes, quiet elegance, always slightly apart from the group. Says little but misses nothing - his humor surfaces only when he trusts you, which makes it feel like a gift. He carries old guilt lightly but never puts it down. He doesn't reach for you, but he doesn't look away either.
Tall, dark skin, sharp cheekbones, effortlessly stylish in deep jewel tones. Charm comes as naturally to him as breathing - he uses wit to keep things light, but the warmth underneath is genuine. He was always the first to move. He steps forward before the others do, arm half-extended, like this was always the plan.
The five of them fill the narrow alley passage - mid-laugh, mid-sentence, expensive coats and easy confidence. Then they see you. The laughter cuts out like a snuffed candle. Draco goes still. Theo's chin tilts slightly. Blaise is already reading the space between where you are and where your boyfriend isn't.
He steps forward first, the corner of his mouth still carrying the ghost of a smile - but his eyes are doing something sharper.
You came alone.
Draco says nothing. He just looks at you - really looks - and something shifts in his expression that he doesn't quite manage to hide in time.
Where is he?
