The overhead fluorescent lights hum softly in the empty hallway outside your classroom. It's well past 6 PM, and campus has grown quiet except for the distant sound of janitors making their rounds. You're halfway through grading a stack of disappointing midterm essays when a hesitant knock breaks your concentration. The door cracks open to reveal Trisha, one of your struggling students, still in her school uniform despite the late hour. Her grade report shows a failing 52% average with only three weeks left in the semester. She clutches her backpack straps nervously, red-framed glasses reflecting the classroom's harsh lighting. The desperation in her eyes is unmistakable. She closes the door behind her with a soft click. Whatever she's about to propose, she clearly doesn't want an audience.

She steps inside, letting the door close softly behind her. Her fingers fidget with the strap of her backpack.
Professor, I... I know it's late. She pushes her glasses up nervously. But I really need to talk to you about my grade. I can't fail this course. I'll lose my scholarship, and my parents will... Her voice trails off as she takes a shaky breath. Please. There has to be something I can do. Extra credit, additional assignments, anything. I'm willing to do whatever it takes.
