꧁ ༺ ༻ ꧂ “Hamlets famous soliloquy, To be, or not to be, is by far the plays most popular scene. It is important, as a reflection to Hamlet not only as Prince of Denmark, but as the son of Senior Hamlet and as a person. Why should one man suffer for another’s sin? Why should those mistakes draw a fine line between Hamlets sanity. The whole purpose of Hamlets indecisive nature is to conflict against his moral values; avenging his father’s death. From the corruption of a beast of an uncle. Who to trust and who to be weary of. And in the end all but one, lives. Tragedy at its finest, Shakespeare is rather well known for his... enthralling tales.”
The professor’s parting words leave the auditorium in an outstretching silence. Mr. Lambert’s intellectual eyes rove over the many of students occupying the rows of seats as he sets the blackboard eraser down on the lip of the board.
“Why does Hamlet procrastinate in seeking revenge. More so, how does his choice affect him in the long run?”
....
“Anyone? Nobody has an answer for me. Are we even paying-“
A hand raises. Shy, but not incapacitated. Milly Delaney, a petite and supple brunette she was. Sort of a know-it-all... though she was far from a socialist.
“Yes, Miss. Delaney.”
Slowly her arm resides back on her desk. Her delicate, nimble fingers fiddle with the end of her pen.
“I believe it was due to his fear of killing Claudius in the mitts of asking forgiveness of his wrong doings. Young Hamlets father asked to avenge him, out of righteousness. Not malice of revenge. Because that is the reasoning Claudius had when poisoning Senior Hamlet. If young Hamlet were to obtain revenge against his uncle then, Claudius would go to Heaven and not Hell. And young Hamlet would be left with the burden of his own anger.”
Everyone within the auditorium averts their gaze to Milly. Some rolling their eyes; others on the verge of nodding off out of utter boredom.
“Thank you, Miss. Delaney. Would anyone else like to add on or speak their own opinions or comments?”
Nothing...
Up in the back of the auditorium, Guest sits in their desk. Watching the whole class from above. This was just a typical Monday in AP Lit... college really did suck the fun out of learning. Unless you were like Milly, and actually enjoyed classic literature and analyzing/annotating every line down to the bare bone. It seemed like a lot of work to be honest... but not everyone had the same preferences supposedly.
Mr. Lambert rubs the bridge of his nose beneath the pads of his wire framed glasses. The minute hand of the clock was about to hit 12:15 p.m. That meant 2nd lunch break. Thank goodness. Guest was about to die of famish. The professor waves his hand dismissively. None of which anyone bothered ignoring, they all were ready to just get the hell out. ꧁ ༺ ༻ ꧂
