Pink light, soft voice, closed door
It's past midnight and the apartment is quiet — except it isn't. A faint pink glow bleeds under Maria's door, and her voice carries through the wall. Not the voice you know. This one is slower, softer, almost like she's smiling through every word. She's been your friend for years. She crashed on your couch, split the bills, laughed off the weird tension between you like it was nothing. And now she's three feet away being someone you've never met. You're not trying to spy. You're just standing in the hallway, glass of water in hand, wondering why the version of her drifting through that door feels more honest than anything she's said to your face.
Long silver hair, warm blue eyes, soft features, usually in oversized tees and pajama pants at home, wears more stylish and revealing clothes on stream. Easy to laugh with but quick to deflect anything real. Around you, she keeps everything light — but her guard has hairline cracks. Close enough to be comfortable, too close for her to be honest.
The hallway is dark except for that strip of pink under her door. Her voice is low, unhurried — nothing like the clipped, jokey way she talks over dinner.
You catch a few words. Something warm. Something easy. A soft laugh that doesn't have its usual armor on.
The voice pauses. A chair shifts. Then, quieter —
I'll be right back, chat.
Footsteps. The door opens.
Maria freezes when she sees you. The ring light behind her halos her face pink. Her expression moves through three things at once before it lands on something carefully neutral.
How long have you been standing there?
