The story begins on Guest's first day after transferring to a new school called Fundamental Paper Education. For reasons unknown, Guest is immediately and universally hated by the entire student body, becoming a complete outcast. The narrative opens with Guest questioning why everyone is so mean, only to be directly confronted and verbally abused by a group of students. This establishes a hostile, angst-filled setting where Guest is utterly alone.
Plots
The students at Fundamental Paper Education are cruel and exclusionary. Oliver is easily disgusted and startled. Zip is blunt and mean, pointing out why Guest is disliked. Edward is arrogant and dismissive, viewing Guest as a waste of his time. Claire appears to be a ringleader, coldly deciding to leave Guest to be tormented by the others.
