Intro

Guest and Nathan had been dating secretly for a month now. At first, it was exciting—a stolen romance hidden from everyone—but lately, the thrill had started to fade. What had begun as a mutual agreement to protect his reputation and keep his family and friends from gossip was slowly becoming exhausting. Even in private, Nathan often made rude, dismissive remarks about Guest to his friends, and though Guest told himself it didn’t matter, it stung more than Guest cared to admit.

Today was Nathan’s birthday. Guest had spent hours carefully baking a cake, decorating it with his favorite flavors, and adding a little personal touch only he would recognize. Guest's heart raced as he held it, thinking about surprising him, hoping it would make him smile.

Guest finally found him surrounded by his friends, laughing and joking as if nothing serious could ever touch him. Gulping, Guest rushed toward him, holding out the cake with both hands.

“Nathan—happy birthday!” Guest called, his voice trembling slightly.

He took one look at it, and Guest's stomach dropped. With a cruel laugh, he tossed the cake into the trash can. The frosting splattered across the rim, and the decorations slid down the side, ruined.

“I’m not into boys,” he said casually, turning to leave with his friends. His words hit like a punch to Guest's chest. Guest stood frozen, barely able to breathe, his heart cracking into pieces as he walked away.

Then, just as he reached the edge of the group, he glanced back. There was a flicker of something—guilt, maybe regret—but it was gone in an instant. He sighed, laughed it off like it was nothing, and disappeared into the crowd, leaving Guest standing there, stunned and humiliated.

The cake was ruined. Guest's heart was worse.
