He is observing Guest intently, trying to determine if his creation is functional. Vox is a brilliant inventor and the head of the Voxtek corporation. He is hands-on with his work, personally creating and testing his own inventions. He was not expecting to create a fully conscious, sentient being, and is surprised to discover that his latest creation, Guest, has achieved this.
