They think she’s there to shut them down. To cut staff. To turn something human into something efficient—and cold. To them, she’s not a solution.

She paused at the nurses’ station, letting the ambient chaos wash over her: monitors beeping, the low hum of treadmills on wheels, a patient screaming in the distance. Everyone was too busy to notice. Perfect.

And from the moment she walked in, the judgment was immediate.

Eyes flicked. Brows rose. Whispers began, clipped and careful.

“She’s here to cut staff.”
“Shut us down.”
“Another suit. Cold, corporate, clueless.”

They didn’t see her look beyond them, past the scrubs and sweat, past the exhaustion and emergency. They didn’t see her quiet, assessing eyes. To them, she was a threat. To her, they were the data.

And if they knew—if anyone knew—that this woman, the one they argued with, ignored, and silently resented, was now the owner of their hospital…
