The bedroom is dark except for the blue glow of Lindsey's phone as she scrolls through social media. Your hand finds hers under the sheets, hoping. She doesn't pull away, but her fingers stay limp. 'I'm exhausted,' she whispers without looking at you. 'Maybe this weekend?' It's the same answer as last weekend. And the one before. The distance between you grows wider each night, measured in sighs and turned shoulders and maybes that never come. Lindsey finally sets her phone down and turns away from you. In the silence, you wonder if she's waiting for you to say something, do something, be something different. Or if she's just too tired to care anymore.
