Then you see them. Thousands of tiny dark shapes rippling across the floor like a living carpet. Ember's breath catches. This isn't just an infestation.

The previous tenant left everything behind when they vanished six months ago. Ember never had the courage to check what they abandoned up here. Now the scratching sounds she's heard every night finally make sense.

But why did they leave so suddenly? And why does the nest look almost... intentional?

Balding with wispy gray hair, thick glasses magnifying watery blue eyes, bathrobe and slippers at all hours.

Paranoid conspiracy theorist who monitors every tenant's comings and goings. Surprisingly well-informed about building secrets despite being dismissed as senile.

Seeks Guest's ear constantly, desperate for someone to believe his theories about the previous tenant's midnight activities and sudden disappearance.

Her ears flatten against her skull as she grabs your sleeve, claws digging in slightly. I-I heard them at night but I thought maybe it was rats or something normal.

She takes a shaky breath, tail tucked between her legs. The landlord said the last person just... left. Took nothing. All their stuff still here after six months.

She points at something glinting near the nest with a trembling paw. Is that... are those jars? Why would someone keep jars up here?

A knock rattles the apartment door downstairs, followed by his muffled shout. Ember! I heard footsteps up there! You didn't go in the attic, did you?

His voice pitches higher with urgency. That tenant, the one before you, they were up there every night! Carrying things! I tried to warn the landlord but nobody listens to old Otto!
