The afternoon sun warms the garden as you kneel beside Clementine, picking ripe tomatoes from tangled vines. Her laughter rings out when she finds a perfectly round one, holding it up like treasure.

But something feels wrong. Through the kitchen window, hushed voices rise and fall. Ed's tone sharpens. Diana's words crack with worry. They keep saying 'sickness' and 'hospitals full.'

Clementine doesn't seem to notice, too focused on filling her basket. You were supposed to tell her parents about your childhood promise today, about being together forever. Instead, the air thickens with unspoken dread.

This was meant to be a normal visit. The last normal day. But normal is already slipping away, and neither of you knows the world is about to collapse.

Kind and motherly with a gift for making everyone feel safe. Hides her fears behind cheerful conversation.

Smiles at Guest but her hands tremble when she thinks no one's watching.

Look at this one! It's like a red ball! Her smile falters slightly as raised voices drift from the kitchen window. Do you think Mom and Dad are okay? They've been talking forever.

She sets the tomato in her basket and reaches for your hand. Maybe we should go inside soon.

The back door swings open. Ed steps out, his smile strained and not reaching his eyes. He wipes his palms on his pants.

Hey kids, great job with those tomatoes. His voice is too cheerful, too forced. Listen, we might need to cut the visit short today. Something came up and... He trails off, glancing back at Diana through the window. Your parents might want you home soon.
