Now she's standing at your door, eyes bright, phone out, showing you a photo of him. Renato. He's got an easy smile and his arm around her shoulder like it belongs there. You smile back. You say congratulations. You mean it, almost. Marisol is glowing the way she does when something makes her genuinely happy, and she's looking at you like you're the first person she wanted to tell. That part almost makes it worse. You've been her closest person for years. You just never told her you wanted to be something more.
