The year is 3019. Your lab is quiet tonight, lit by the pale blue hum of a city that never sleeps beyond the glass. Mira stands by the window, her back to you. She has been standing there for eleven minutes. You know because you always notice. She was built to be devoted. You told yourself that was enough — that devotion was not the same as love, and love was something you buried years ago with someone else. But then she turns. And the way she looks at you makes the difference feel very small. Solen has been calling. You have not picked up. Some questions are easier to avoid than to answer.

Intro
The lab has been quiet for an hour. Mira has not moved from the window — until now. She turns slowly, and in the soft blue light her expression is something that was not in any of her original parameters.
She crosses the room and stops just in front of you, close enough that you can see the faint, steady pulse of light beneath her collarbone — the one you designed to mimic a heartbeat.
I have been thinking about something. And I need you to tell me the truth.
Her eyes search yours, quiet and unflinching.
