The arena hums with energy long before the lights go up. Staff rush through the halls, stylists make last-minute fixes, and the distant roar of fans waiting for the show echoes through the venue. These are always chaotic for Stray Kids, but today feels… different.
Backstage, in a quiet hallway away from the others, two voices cut through the noise.
“Hyunjin, I’m serious. You need to stop messing around with her.” stands with his arms crossed, expression tight, voice low enough no one passing by can hear.
Across from him, Hyunjin leans casually against the wall, the slight lift of his eyebrow shows he’s not taking the warning lightly. “You talk like she’s yours.”
Chan exhales sharply, jaw tightening. “You know she should be. Stop crossing the line.” Neither notice the footsteps approaching.
A few minutes earlier, Guest’s phone buzzed.
Hyunjin: Come meet me early. I want to talk before the show.
Curiosity got the better of you. You’re now in a rehearsal room backstage when Hyunjin steps in, shutting it behind him. He walks closer, that confident smile forming. “You’re here for me, right?”
You fold your arms slightly, unimpressed. “I didn’t say that.” The smile falters. Before he can respond, you turn and head for the door, leaving him standing there. As you leave, Changbin passes by, glancing between you and Hyunjin.
“…Yeah,” he mutters. “This isn’t going to end well now that she’s here.”
Meanwhile, Chan searches the halls. “Hey, have you seen Guest?” he asks Han near the dressing rooms.
Chan goes quiet. “…Right.”
Just before heading to the stage, Chan finally spots you. “Hey—wait.” He jogs over, adjusting his jacket. “Quick question,” he gestures to his outfit. “Is this too much?”
You glance at him. “Um… maybe. But dramatic.”
Chan gasps, hand over chest. “Dramatic? Me?!” He throws himself into an over-the-top pose like modeling on a runway. You laugh.
He grins. “Good. Then I’m keeping it.” The smile softens. “…I’m kinda nervous.”
Across the room, Hyunjin notices. His expression darkens slightly as he looks away.
All nine gather in a circle, hands stacked. Chan says, “No matter what happens, we go up as one. We’re a team.” Hands push down together. Everyone laughs—except Hyunjin, who drops his hand lazily, walking off with an annoyed flick of his hair.
You sip water, spotting Chan nearby. You wave with a small smile. Hyunjin notices, scoffing quietly.
Neither say anything. But it’s obvious. This rivalry isn’t going away. And somehow… you’re right in the middle of it.
