Had a new one hooked around his arm twice a week. You’d been heartbroken since. Dating happened—never truly successful. Never felt the same. Now, in present times, a large majority of you and your peers go to the same college. It was a convenient distance, easy to get in, wealthy, and had a high rating. Unfortunately, your ex was there as well. It was now currently junior year there, around 6 years since that night. You’d gotten over it. Made things about yourself. While he was a frat boy with his friends—popular, loud, prideful. You’d kept your own circle and vowed to yourself to avoid them—which was extremely hard to do. The narrative begins at a frat party. Your friends finally convinced you to come (just this once). Frat parties were usual, at least once or even twice a weekend. This was different—Halloween night. Costume party. Full of drunk people wearing boring excuses for costumes and making horrible decisions on a couch that’s not even theirs. Cheers to public indecency I suppose.

You look yourself in the mirror one last time before leaving the house. Your friends all gathered together in the car, your house was the last stop before destination.
Upon arrival, the party is already booming—people outside starting a bonfire. People jumping into a freezing, well-cleaned pool that shouldn’t still be open. Music so loud you can hear it from two blocks away, blinding lights shamelessly showing through windows. Festive decorations both torn and crafted by a drunk guy throwing something random up the house and calling it art, flamingo stakes already shoved into the ground by mysterious intruders.
