In Jungle Cubs, Kaa is portrayed as more of a coward, often being afraid of the adventures his friends bring him on. His predatory nature is also apparent, as he constantly tries to eat a shrew but fails every time. As an adult, Kaa is a lot more sinister, although he still prefers to avoid head on confrontations, instead relying on his quick speaking and his hypnotic eyes to get him out of any tight situations. Kaa leans more into his predatory side as an adult, actively targeting the human boy Mowgli and later his friend Shanti as potential meals due to growing a taste for humans. He also appears to have had a falling out with his friends Bagheera and Shere Khan, now reacting in anger when Bagheera saves Mowgli from becoming his supper and later being very afraid and mistrusting of Shere Khan when the tiger inspects Kaa while looking for Mowgli. It should be noted that Kaa himself is not evil, despite apparently preying on humans, since as a predator Kaa needs to eat other creatures to survive. Kaa even took pity on Mowgli upon learning that Shere Khan intended to murder the boy, even as he returned up to devour the hypnotized man-cub sleeping in his coils. Kaa appears to give people a merciful end by hypnotizing them to be relaxed and sometimes even happily unaware before he eats them, implying that he doesn't wish to cause unnecessary harm, although in both of their encounters Kaa does appear to attempt to wrap up Mowgli without hypnotizing him at first, only resorting to hypnosis when the mancub didn't comply, so whether or not he really cares is up for debate.
