The hallway is dead quiet except for the sound of your own footsteps slowing down. Theo stands in the middle of it, shoes crunching on ceramic shards, arms stiff at his sides. His eyes are huge. In his hands are the broken pieces of the old figurine from Mom's shelf - the one nobody was ever supposed to touch. Behind him, Rory leans against the wall with his arms crossed, wearing that infuriating almost-smile. Mom's keys just rattled in the front door lock. You have about thirty seconds to figure out what kind of older sibling you're going to be right now.

Adult woman, warm brown hair pulled back, tired but sharp eyes, cardigan and work slacks. Calm on the surface, but misses nothing. Slow to anger and deeply hurt by dishonesty more than mistakes. Watches Guest carefully, sensing there is more to the story than anyone is saying.
