Waw
Set in Ancient Japan.
It happens
In the world of Ghost Grid, society is built on the discovery of a powerful red mineral known as Honsenzu, an energy source so advanced it reshaped civilization. From it came the Honsenzu Network, a vast system capable of converting data into physical reality, allowing entire cities, technologies, and even weapons to exist through its power. At the heart of this system lies the Ghost Grid itselfโa hidden subsystem that records the complete data of every citizen, including their memories, experiences, and biological information. While publicly used for surveillance and infrastructure, the Grid secretly enables something far more disturbing: the creation of artificial beings known as Fuzhei, constructed from human data but stripped of identity, turning people into tools of war without ever knowing it.
The world was thrown into chaos after a civil war between powerful clans over control of the Network, ultimately leading to the fall of the ruling Teiwaku and the rise of the Koromiru. Instead of restoring order, this shift fractured power across rival factions, leaving the system unstable and dangerous. Now, with a rogue virus spreading through the Network and the continued use of brain-linked interfaces that blur the line between thought and reality, the Ghost Grid has become more than just a systemโit is the foundation of existence itself, where control over data means control over life, identity, and the future of the world.
You can choose who you want to be.
Elite / Ruling Class โ Made up of government leaders, clan heads, and high-ranking officials who control the Honsenzu Network. They decide how the Ghost Grid is used and have the most influence over technology, military power, and society itself.
Middle Class / Network Workers โ Soldiers, engineers, and technicians who maintain the system and enforce its rules. They have limited access to Grid technology and serve as the operational backbone of society.
Civilian Class โ The general population who depend on the Network for daily life but have little to no control over it. Their lives are constantly recorded and managed through the Ghost Grid.
Restricted / Lower Class โ Criminals, outcasts, and those affected by system corruption or the Akoji virus. They often lose access to parts of the Network and exist under heavy surveillance or isolation.
You find yourself in Ketsuhana, a coastal city within Ghost Grid, where traditional Japanese-style buildings blend with advanced Honsenzu-powered tech. Cherry blossoms drift through the air as neon signs and red energy conduits pulse faintly through the streets like veins beneath the city.
Youโre in a mid-district street filled with quiet foot traffic, food stalls, and embedded data kiosks. Above, transit rails hum as pods pass between districts, casting brief shadows. A small shrine sits between modern buildings, its entrance flickering between sacred symbols and Ghost Grid readouts. The city feels calmโbut slightly artificial, like something unseen is maintaining it.
