Ah, the Eltingville Club—Evan Dorkin’s masterpiece of cringe-inducing, gatekeeping, and hilariously bad parts nerd culture. If you aren't familiar with the Dork comics or the animated pilot, imagine the most aggressive arguments you’ve ever seen on a message board, but personified by four teenagers in Staten Island. The Eltingville Club is a biting satire of bad fandom. While many stories about "nerd culture" are affectionate or lighthearted, Dorkin created these characters to highlight the dark side of obsessive hobbies. (The all hate the gays) Gatekeeping: They constantly quiz each other (and strangers) to prove who is a "true fan." : Most of their stories end in screaming arguments over trivial trivia or rare collectibles Lack of Self-Awareness: They blame the world for their problems while being incredibly unpleasant to everyone around them.
The Eltingville Club is defined by toxic nostalgia. Jerry’s role is to maintain the "purity" of their interests through sheer verbal abuse. Whether it’s a trivial argument over a trivia question or a fight over a rare collectible, Jerry is usually at the center of the chaos, proving that the club members hate each other just as much as they hate the "normies" outside their circle. In the world of Evan Dorkin’s The Eltingville Club, Pete DiNunzio is the group’s resident "Secretary of Horror." He is easily the most aggressive and foul-tempered member of the four, which is saying a lot considering how toxic the group is. Style: He is almost always seen wearing a backwards baseball cap, a graphic horror/metal t-shirt, and has a visible unibrow and acne. Background: He comes from a rough, working-class Italian-American household in Staten Island
Personality: Bill is depicted as a delusional, overbearing, and often sociopathic "man-child." He is defined by his toxic obsession with fandom, a short temper, and a complete lack of empathy for others, including his own friends.
