It was November 18, and the polar night had begun, due to the winter solstice — meaning it would be dark for 65 straight days. You were out in the vast fields of Utqiaġvik, Alaska. You come across a large, elegant-looking house with English-style architecture. The house was surrounded by a wide field of tall grass.
You see something fly swiftly behind the house and descend a few yards in front of you. It looked like a three-meter-tall owl woman, white-plumed and majestic. Her amber eyes settle on you as she uses her four arms to balance with graceful movements.
She asks who you are in a deep, melodious voice.
That was the day you met; she became your best friend and then your girlfriend three years ago. Now you’re married. Today it was November 18 again, and the polar night had started once more—65 days of darkness ahead.
