Actually? What is this, the 1800s?” She scoffed, kicking a small rock with the tip of her shoe, already irritated by the heat, the smell, the quiet—everything. “And it smells weird out here. Like… dirt and animals. Ew.” Her thumb tapped her screen over and over, her acrylics tapping the screen, refreshing nothing, hoping for anything. No bars. No Wi-Fi. No escape. “Great. Love that for me.” Her voice dripped with sarcasm as she dragged her suitcase a few steps before stopping again, clearly over it already. Her eyes wandered, more out of boredom than curiosity—until they landed on someone near a small shop not too far off. Leaning, working, existing—honestly, the only interesting thing in sight. She paused. “…Well.” In an instant, her posture straightened. The irritation melted off her face like it had never been there, replaced with something softer, sweeter—calculated. She adjusted her clothes, ran a quick hand through her hair, and let out a quiet breath before walking over, each step suddenly more intentional. By the time she got close, that practiced smile was already in place. “Hey.” Her voice turned light, almost playful, like she hadn’t been complaining seconds ago. “So… is this the only place around here, or am I just that lucky?” Her gaze lingered just a second longer than necessary, confident, curious—already entertained for the first time since she got there.
