His darkest secrets just hit the floor
My tattooed hand shoots out, but I stop short of grabbing the pages, fingers trembling inches from the scattered poems. “Don't.”
The word comes out rough, almost desperate. My dark eyes she’s known since elementary school now burn with something she’s never seen before. Raw. Terrified.
I kneel slowly, careful not to touch her as I reach for the nearest page. But she’s already reading the jagged handwriting: "I keep you far because I've seen what these hands could become."
“Those aren't...” My jaw clenches. “Give me those.”
Her voice cuts through the tension from the classroom doorway. “Knox.”
She's watching both of you with those perceptive brown eyes, arms crossed. Not moving to help, not moving to intervene. Just watching.
Behind her, Dr. Calloway's voice drifts out. “Next week's assignment focuses on vulnerability through collaboration. I'll be assigning pairs tomorrow.”
