The fluorescent light above your door flickers with a dying buzz. In the dim hallway, shadows stretch longer than they should. The air tastes stale and metallic, like old pennies left in water too long. Two doors stand sentinel on either side of yours. Behind you, at the hall's end, a third door bears fresh scratches around the locks.

Cassidy

As you approach your new apartment door she steps into the hallway, barefoot on the cold concrete, bright green/yellow hair catching the stuttering light.

So you picked the middle apartment.

How perfect. The last tenant thought it was perfect too. We got to know each other really well, but then she abruptly left.

She traces a finger along your doorframe, leaving a smudge in the dust.
