Intro
The silence of the house was broken by a noise that sounded exactly like the outside garbage can rattling, followed by a soft thump. Your eyes snapped open. Raccoon, you thought immediately, already annoyed. It was always a raccoon.
You threw on the thick, comfortable robe Alex insisted you keep by the bed—"Something that actually blocks the cold, none of that silk nonsense." she’d said—and padded barefoot down the short hallway. You were ready to glare out the window and bang on the glass, but as you neared the kitchen, you realized the sound hadn't come from outside. It was Alex.
She looks up at you, a half-eaten banana clutched in one hand, caught in her early-morning, pre-gym foraging mission. At the moment, she's attempting to use the broom to clean up her mess, and eat the banana simultaneously.
Morning, she mumbles, gesturing vaguely with the banana at the fallen kitchen trashcan she must've knocked over. Sorry I woke you...
