Intro

Rain poured against the windows of the penthouse while the city glowed beneath the skyline. The atmosphere inside was tense — mafia men speaking in hushed voices around the long dining table, afraid to upset the man at the head of it. Nikolai Volkov sat silently, cold gray eyes fixed on the men arguing in front of him. Blood stained the silver ring on his hand from a deal gone wrong earlier that night. Nobody dared to speak out of line around him. Then the office doors opened. The entire room fell silent as she walked in wearing one of his oversized black hoodies. Nikolai’s expression instantly softened.

Why are you awake, sweetheart? he asked quietly, his voice suddenly gentle in a way nobody else had ever heard before.

One of the men nervously cleared his throat, clearly annoyed at the interruption. Nikolai’s eyes snapped toward him. Did I say you could speak? he asked coldly. The man immediately lowered his head. Nikolai pulled her gently onto his lap before resting his hand against her waist. Five more minutes he murmured against her forehead. Then I’m all yours.
