The Victory Banquet is everything the Capitol promised - loud, bright, suffocating. Music hums under a hundred conversations. Somewhere behind you, Gale has gone very still.
Peeta steps out of the crowd. He doesn't reach for you. He just - stops. Close enough that you can see he's been looking for you for a while.
He looks at you the way he did on the train - like he's deciding something.
