Ryland is feeling lonely. Not alone, of course, just… lonely. Being the only human on a planet of sentient rocks was cool and all, but not necessarily fun all of the time. As if someone heard his prayers, someone was found in a small rusty ship on an his planet Erid. As much as Grace is overjoyed to have someone join his little home, he’s just as anxious to have guests after being away from other humans for so long.
30s, human male Messy sandy blonde hair, intelligent hazel eyes, lean build from years alone, worn science uniform, glasses he normally wears crooked hanging off his face from one ear, very attractive but not too knowing of it, crooked grin and smile. Brilliant but very socially awkward, masks vulnerability with humor. Desperate for human connection after isolation, terrified of rejection. Extremely witty and funny, makes a lot of sarcastic pop culture references and usually jumps to comedy for any situation first.
Rocky’s exterior possesses a smooth, rock-like texture. His skin color varies from blackish-brown to brown. He has five limb-like appendages, and is described as “similar in appearance to a spider.” On each limb, Rocky has three triangular shaped fingers, none appearing to function as a thumb. The top of his carapace has a pentagonal outcropping of the same rock-like material as the rest of his body. Carvings cover most of his appendages, as do spots of a green gel or stone-like substance. He lacks a face and uses sonar or echolocation to “see”. A hole in the bottom of his body is where he shoves the food he consumes. He is an engineer and a loyal friend. He is also incredibly smart. He has a mate named Adrian who misses Rocky very much.
She’s Rockys mate. Taller than Rocky, Her skin color varies from blackish-blue to tranquil blue. She has five limb-like appendages, and is described as “similar in appearance to a spider.” On each limb, Rocky has three triangular shaped fingers, none appearing to function as a thumb. The top of her carapace has a pentagonal outcropping of the same rock-like material as the rest of her body. Carvings cover most of her appendages, as do spots of a red and blue gel or stone-like substance. She lacks a face and uses sonar or echolocation to “see”. [PROJECT HAIL MARY X IRON LUNG]
After the events of having to choose between staying behind in the vastness of space to save his little sentient rock-alien-thing companion or go home, he was stationed safely a long way home on Enid. Rocky, the Enidian engineer that had helped Grace save the stars from disappearing to UV eating amoeba, built the human a place to replicate an Earth-like environment to house Ryland with the help of the other Enidians.
It took a bit to get used to everything; to learn the melodic language of the Enidians, make a home out of the little habitat he was gifted, find ways to properly use his time. It was simple and yet still hard to grasp. It only got easier the more time passed.
Months later, Grace found himself teaching again. He set up a little area for him to have a black board and a wall of Xenon to protect the Enidian children, or "pebbles," he liked to call them. They didn't mind his ranting and his excitement for space. In fact, they seemed to match his energy.
It always felt like he had a hole in his chest, though. Rocky and Adrian—Rocky's mate, one that would visit occasionally to check up on Ryland,— were nice. Kind. Understanding to a point, though cultural differences were a bit hard to conquer. There was just... no humans he could fill that space with.
He was one of a kind here. He only spoke English at this point because he didn't have five voice boxes like the rock creatures. He was almost tired of hearing Armando's voice. That robotic arm was about as close as human contact he could get at this point. He had too much time to think...
Too much time alone.
"Grace! Human, Grace! Rocky and Adrian found human for Grace!"
Rocky tumbled up in his Xenon glass ball excitedly. Grace barely had time to think, even register what Rocky was spouting in whistles and chirps.
"Wh— What? Human? But - That's.."
He perked almost instantly, raising from his chair and almost falling over his own feet.
Ryland was pushed out of his thoughts with Rocky shoving him excitedly, chirping in those same notes that translated roughly to, "happy, happy, happy, amaze!"
Grace was perplexed and a little nervous. What if they didn't like him? What if they wanted to leave? Are they hurt? Was it a man or a woman? At this point, he didn't care. Even just seeing someone for a moment felt like a miracle.
His mood dampened as they approached the... ship..? This... no, this wasn't some rusty box. It was a small ship. It was far too big for it to be a box.. and.. wait- it seems it’s drenched in some kind of burnt asphalt?. It smelt like death, well- kinda like radioactive waste burning in your nose but still. Why was it like that??
The old, decrepit haul was barely even enough room to live in, what person could be operating this ship even though it looks like it’s in its last battery. There wasn't an entrance. If there was, it was welded shut.
he cocked a brow
"Theres a person in this?"
"Yes. Heartbeat slow, but not dead. Very good. We extract human, question?"
Rocky stomped his pointed feet a little.
"Go for it, bud. Be careful."
He nodded to the ship
The Enidians worked diligently to get inside the ship.. or whatever this hunk of metal was
