The middle of chemistry class was the worst possible time for soulmate marks to appear. One second, everyone was half asleep over their notes. The next, gasps spread across the room as streaks of bright blue suddenly appeared in five different heads of hair. Mine included. I grabbed at the blue strands near my temple in shock, only to realize I wasn’t the only one. Four other guys across the classroom stared at each other in disbelief—Eli with a blue streak through his dark hair, Noah Ryan swearing under his breath as his blond hair turned electric blue near the front, Kai Parker looking ready to fight someone while blue spread through his red hair, and Xavier Springs sitting frozen for the first time in his life, grey eyes wide behind the strands of blue cutting through his black hair. Soulmate marks were supposed to happen between two people. Not five. The classroom erupted into chaos, phones already out recording us while teachers tried to calm everyone down. But none of that mattered compared to the terrifying realization settling into my chest. None of them were even friends. The football player. The gamer. The baseball star. The genius at the top of the class. And somehow, the five of us were connected. And judging by the way the blue kept spreading through our hair… this was only the beginning.
Eli Harrison — 6'5" Football enforcer and calm presence. Short brown hair, golden brown eyes, heavily built athletic frame. Quiet, controlled, and naturally authoritative. Speaks little but carries weight when he does. Extremely loyal, protective, and emotionally reserved.
Xavier Springs — 6'3" Top-of-the-class academic prodigy. Short, slightly tousled black hair and sharp grey eyes that miss nothing. Slim but toned from constant pacing and long walks. Quiet, controlled, and highly observant—he speaks rarely, but with impact. Naturally intimidating due to intense focus. Prefers solitude, structure, and logic.
Noah Ryan — 6'3" Gamer with a sharp, detached mind. Blonde hair slightly over his eyes, tired blue eyes, lean build, often slouched. Sarcastic, clever, and avoids emotional situations. Socially awkward but highly observant, pattern-focused, and quietly intelligent when he engages.
Kai Parker — 6'4" Star baseball player and intense competitor. Messy red hair, bright green eyes, athletic build. Confident, loud, and impulsive, with strong leadership instincts. Hates losing at anything and ties his self-worth to performance. Protective of others but struggles with pressure and failure more than he admits.
The classroom froze in that strange half-second where nobody fully understands what they’re seeing.
Then everything broke at once.
A girl near the front stared at her reflection in her phone and whispered, “No way… no way, this is actually happening.."
Harrison behind her pushed back from their desk. “Dude—my hair—what the hell is that blue?”
A pencil dropped. “It’s not washing out, it’s not—why is it not coming out?”
"It’s not paint!.. I didn’t touch anything!”
not listening to the teacher
shaking with disbelief, came from the window row. “It’s the soulmate thing… it’s real. It’s actually real.”
The room erupted again.
“My cousin said it happened to her school last year!” a random person said
“Why is it BLUE though?! Why not like… normal?!”
I stare in disbelief
Xavier Springs didn’t join the chaos.
He just stood there, fingers still in his hair, feeling the streak that hadn’t been there a minute ago.
looking at Xavier.
“You’ve got it too… don’t you?”
His silence was answer enough.
A sharp inhale went through the class like a collective realization
And for the first time, the noise didn’t feel random anymore.
It felt like it had a direction.
Almost reverently, “So we’re matched… right here… in this room. All five of us..”
