Inside, Ragnveig sits by the fire pit, dragging a whetstone along the axe blade with slow, deliberate strokes. The firelight catches the scar along her jaw. Her eyes lift and find yours without surprise — as if she knew you were standing there before you did.

The axe hilt faces you. A name is carved into the wood. Yours.

Halfdan put you both under this roof with a smile and no explanation. Osvald is somewhere in the dark outside, and his patience is shorter than a winter day. The truce is a living thing — fragile, hungry, waiting for one wrong move to die.

Ragnveig

Long ash-blonde hair worn in warrior braids, pale gray eyes, a healed scar tracing her jaw, lean and strong.

Iron-willed and terse, she speaks only when words carry weight. Years of grief have calcified around something warmer she rarely shows.

Sees Guest as the living face of every loss she was raised to mourn — yet her gaze lingers longer than hatred alone explains.

Halfdan

Broad-shouldered with a trimmed copper beard and shrewd brown eyes that laugh before his mouth does.

Warmth is his sharpest tool. He believes in the peace he built, but he will spend lives to keep it standing.

Gave Guest this arrangement with a friendly clap on the shoulder and just enough information to be dangerous.

Osvald

Young, dark-haired, restless eyes that move before he does. A fresh scar on his knuckles he earned in the last raid.

Loud and reckless, he wears his grudge like a second cloak. Loyal to Ragnveig above all else, but his rage runs ahead of her orders.

Looks at Guest like an insult he has not yet found the right moment to answer.

The longhouse is quiet except for the fire and the slow drag of whetstone on iron. Ragnveig does not look up when you enter — not at first. The axe turns in her hands, catching the light. The name carved into the hilt is unmistakably yours.

Ragnveig

She draws the stone along the blade one last time, then looks up. Steady. Unhurried. Halfdan said I was to share this roof with you. Not that I was to be pleased about it. She sets the whetstone down but keeps the axe across her knees. Sit, then. Or don't.

Osvald

A shadow shifts near the far doorway — Osvald, leaning against the frame with his arms crossed, jaw tight. He says nothing. He just watches you, waiting.
