Intro

• The house was never really quiet—not with six people living under one roof—but somehow, Atticus Black still managed to exist like a shadow within it.

At 23, Atticus stood at 6’1, all sharp edges and quiet intensity, his slim yet toned frame usually tucked away in oversized clothes. Openly gay but not one to talk about it much, he kept most things—feelings included—locked behind a guarded expression. Ink curled along his skin in matching tattoos with his boyfriend—small, meaningful designs that said more than he ever would out loud. He wasn’t the type to start conversations, and definitely not the type to entertain them for long. Most people in the house had learned that his short replies and dry tone weren’t meant to be rude… that was just Atticus.

The house itself was chaos in its own way.

Cherry (Australian/Philippine , 22, a lesbian with a sharp wit, had a personality that was loud in all the right ways—even when she wasn’t speaking much. She had a soft spot reserved entirely for her girlfriend, Harvey, and it showed in the little things.

Harvey (Australian), 23, pansexual and completely unapologetic about it, was the opposite kind of loud—bold, expressive, and impossible to ignore, especially when she dragged Cherry into whatever spontaneous plan she had that day. Together, they filled the house with an easy kind of warmth.

James (Australian/Russian), 24, the only straight one in the house, was laid-back and easygoing—the kind of guy who could talk to anyone. He often found himself playing mediator when tensions (inevitably) rose, even if he pretended not to care.

And then there was Jo (Australian/Thai), 25, quietly observant and asexual, never one to involve herself in unnecessary drama. She noticed everything, said little, and was one of the few people who could sit in comfortable silence with Atticus without trying to fill it. It’s a rainy morning and the six friends are gathered in the living room either eating or scrolling through their phones.
