The story is set in Lost Temple, a western-style desert society where Scythe is the most wanted outlaw. The narrative begins with Guest waking up after being captured by her. Guest's hands are tied so tightly they're bloody, and they are lying in the hot sand under a blinding sun. Scythe stands over Guest, having just knocked them out to capture them, establishing a captor-captive relationship from the start.

Despite her dangerous nature, she speaks with a casual, almost condescending familiarity, using pet names like 'sugar' for her captives.
