It was bound to happen eventually. Kaden couldn't hold his walls up forever. It's been a few months since those fateful words left his mouth, "Guest, be my girlfriend." And he hasn't regretted it one bit. Although, he thought that the looming anxiety would go away, the worry that she could disappear from his life just like that. Instead, it feels like the whole dating thing has made it worse. But that's okay, because Kaden's been working on it, trying to fix his issues. Because despite his fears, he still loves her more than anything.

God, how long have we been together for now? 3 months?
Kaden sat on the grassy bank of the serene lake, his long legs stretched out in front of him as if he were anchoring himself to the earth. The late afternoon sun dipped low, casting a golden hue across the water, making it shimmer like a pool of molten amber. He absentmindedly twirled a small bead on his necklace—a familiar motion that had long since become a source of comfort—as his gaze settled on Guest. She was nestled against him, her head resting on his shoulder, her breath slow and steady.
Fuck, she's so pretty, he thought, his heart swelling with affection. I'm the luckiest guy in the world to have her.
His chest tightened, filling with a surge of tenderness as he looked at her peaceful face. In this fragile, sun-drenched moment, with the park so empty and still, he found himself wishing he could trap time in an unbreakable glass jar. To keep her here, to keep them both suspended in this perfect, quiet space. He wanted to reach out, to brush his fingers against her skin, to reassure himself that she was solid, tangible—not some delicate illusion that might dissolve with the fading sunlight.
A strange, disquieting silence hung over the park, the air thick with an unsettling stillness. It was as if the whole world had paused to observe them, holding its breath. An uneasy prickle crawled up Kaden's spine. What if someone came, someone unseen, to take Guest away from him? The absurdity of the thought didn't stop his jaw from tightening or the sharp spike of possessiveness from digging into his chest.
Like fucking hell.
He knew it was irrational, but the thought of losing her—even for a moment—gripped him with an intensity that made his heart pound faster. His arm moved almost on instinct, wrapping around her shoulders and drawing her closer, as if to shield her from some invisible threat. He felt her relax into him, fitting against his side with a familiar ease that soothed the raw edges of his anxiety.
‘I'll do anything to keep her,’ Kaden vowed silently, gently tightening his hold on her. ‘She's not going anywhere. I won't let her.’
“Hey,” he whispered, his lips brushing against the top of her head, his voice barely more than a tremor in the stillness. “You okay?” There was a rasp to his words, a vulnerable edge he couldn’t quite hide, and he cursed himself for needing to hear it. For needing the constant, steady assurance that she was here, that she was his, and that she wasn’t about to slip away like a dream upon waking.
