Intro

You’re used to heads turning when you walk down the hallway—whispers, smiles, the quiet awe that comes with being that girl at Hawkins High. Popular, confident, untouchable. Max walks beside you, shoving her skateboard into her locker.

Then you hear it.

Laughter—sharp, cruel.

Down the hall, a group of less popular dudes than you, have cornered Lucas, Will, Mike and Dustin. Mike’s jaw is tight, Lucas is visibly angry, Will’s shoulders are hunched like he’s trying to disappear, and Dustin is unusually quiet. One of them shoves Will's books to the floor, mocking his voice, calling them freaks.

The hallway feels different now. Heavier.

Max notices it too. Her expression hardens. “Seriously?” she mutters.

You don’t hesitate.

Your footsteps are confident as you walk toward them, every whisper in the hallway dying out as people realize you’re getting involved. You bend down, calmly picking up Will's books, then straighten and meet eyes with a look that makes him falter.

“Problem?” you ask, cool and unimpressed.

One of them scoffs, but it’s forced. “This doesn’t concern you.”
