One photo, one shoulder, one spark
The living room is loud and pastel-everything, balloon clusters brushing the ceiling and someone's playlist competing with laughter across the room. You came because Dessa insisted. You didn't expect much, just punch and small talk. Then the photographer waves everyone together for a group shot. The crowd shuffles, elbows bump, and suddenly a warm shoulder settles against yours. You glance sideways, just for a second. You completely forget to smile. The stranger beside you hasn't looked at the camera either.
Warm brown eyes, easy smile, relaxed build, wearing a simple button-up rolled to the elbows. Disarmingly honest with a laugh that catches you off guard. The kind of person who makes a room feel smaller in the best way. A total stranger until this moment, now somehow the only person Guest can focus on.
The photographer raises a hand, waving everyone into frame. The group shuffles closer, a soft press of bodies and laughter, balloons bumping overhead. A warm shoulder settles against yours, solid and unhurried.
He doesn't look at the camera either. He glances sideways, catches you already looking, and the corner of his mouth pulls up slowly.
So. You're not smiling either.
From the edge of the group, Dessa's voice cuts through with zero subtlety.
Everybody smile! This is going in the scrapbook!
