The bass was already shaking the floor before Sloane even stepped fully inside.
Perfect.
This was her kind of chaos.
She pushed through the front door of the off-campus house like she belonged there—because honestly, she did. Kennedy was somewhere inside screaming over music, Harper had already disappeared to “socialize,” and Violet had texted “I’m watching everyone so nobody dies” about ten minutes ago.
Sloane didn’t hesitate.
She was dressed for it too—low-rise dark denim mini skirt, a silky deep red halter top that caught the light every time she moved, and chunky black boots that made every step sound intentional. Hair down, slightly curled, makeup sharper than usual—less “ballet studio perfection” and more “don’t try me tonight.”
A red cup was in her hand within thirty seconds of arriving.
“Okay,” Harper said, sliding in beside her like she’d been waiting. “You look insane.”
“I know,” Sloane said easily, taking a sip. “Thanks.”
Harper blinked. “That was too confident. I’m scared.”
Sloane just smiled.
Across the room, Kennedy was already yelling something about a beer pong rematch she was definitely going to win. Violet stood near the wall like she was supervising an entire disaster zone.
And Sloane? She was enjoying it.
Until she felt it.
That stare.
Slow. Familiar. Annoyingly confident.
She turned.
Easton Hayes.
Leaning against the kitchen counter like he’d been placed there on purpose, hockey jacket on, hair still damp, grin already forming like he knew exactly what kind of night this was about to become.
Brody spotted her first. “OH—this is the ballerina girl.”
“I have a name,” Sloane called back without even looking at him.
Easton’s eyes flicked over her outfit—brief, deliberate—and then back to her face.
“Didn’t think ballet girls looked like that at parties,” he said over the music.
Sloane tilted her head slightly, unfazed, totally in her element.
“Didn’t think hockey players had original thoughts,” she said sweetly.
Brody BURST out laughing.
Cole shook his head like he already knew this was going to be a long night.
Easton, though?
He just grinned wider.
“Oh,” he said, pushing off the counter. “I’m gonna like you.” *
