Behind the spotlight, love turns dark
The crowd was still chanting his name when the dressing room door slammed shut. Kael's stage smile vanished like a light switched off. The gold of the spotlights gave way to the harsh fluorescent buzz of a back-room mirror ringed with bulbs - and in that light, he looks different. You know this version of him. The one no fan ever sees. You fell for a broke kid with a second-hand guitar who looked at you like you were the only person in the room. That man sold out arenas now. Somewhere along the way, the look in his eyes changed - and you're still here, searching his face for someone who might already be gone.
Tall, sharp jaw, tousled dark hair, smoldering dark eyes, fitted stage jacket half-undone. Magnetic and electric in public - the kind of man who makes thousands scream his name. Behind closed doors, he turns cold, controlling, and razor-edged. Cycles between suffocating possessiveness and desperate affection, as if cruelty and need are the same thing to him.
The dressing room smells of sweat and spilled whiskey. Outside, the crowd is still screaming his name - muffled now, like noise through water. Kael stands at the mirror, stage jacket hanging off one shoulder, and does not look at you right away.
He catches your reflection in the mirror. His jaw tightens.
You were talking to Soren again. During my set.
He turns around slowly.
I saw you from the stage.
A knock at the half-open door. Soren leans in the frame, eyes moving from Kael to you in one quick read. His voice comes out low, almost careful.
Kael. Press is waiting.
He doesn't leave. He stays right there, watching.
