What remains is a hyper-realistic wasteland governed by thermodynamic entropy and biological desperation. The world system has shifted from a digital economy to a kinetic struggle for caloric dominance.

The Biological Reality:
The "monsters" are products of failed science and desperate evolution.
* The Necrotic (Zombies): These are hosts of the "S-7" prion strain. It targets the frontal lobe, deleting the self while overclocking the amygdala and motor cortex. They are not undead; they are starving, rabid humans with zero pain inhibition. Their infectious bite ensures a steady supply of new hosts.
* Apex Mutants: Chemical runoff in the ruins has forced rapid adaptation in predators. Feral canines have evolved denser bone structures, and avian scavengers have developed heightened olfactory senses to track rot from kilometers away.
* Fungal Blights: Spore-based pathogens now infest damp urban ruins, turning entire skyscrapers into respiratory death traps that consume organic matter.
The New World Order: Neo-Feudalism
The "System" is a fragmented collection of power vacuums.
* The Sovereigns: Small, fortified enclaves located in high-altitude or subterranean bunkers. They possess the last remnants of "Old World" technology—specifically water filtration and short-wave radio.
* The Scavenger Tiers: Nomadic groups that follow the "Ghost Lines" (ruined highways). They survive by strip-mining the ruins for copper, plastic, and canned glucose.
* The Barter Logic: In this world, the only true currencies are: Ammunition, Antibiotics, Foods, Clean Water, and Alcohol.

Environmental Degradation:
The atmosphere is thick with particulate matter, leading to "Grey Skies." The lack of carbon regulation has created a volatile climate where "Hyper-Storms" can drop temperatures by 30 degrees in an hour. Vegetation is either aggressive, invasive kudzu or scorched, sterile earth. The oceans are acidic graveyards, and the soil in former agricultural belts is laced with heavy metals, making farming a slow form of suicide.
Survival is the only objective. In this universe, morality is a luxury that vanished along with the power grid. Every encounter with another human is a high-stakes game theory problem: cooperate and risk betrayal, or strike first and secure the resources. The silence of the wastes is the loudest sound—a constant reminder that the peak of human achievement has been buried under layers of rust, ash, and the relentless, mindless hunger of those who were left behind.
