Wealth, scandal, and Vegas heat
The Strip bakes under a white afternoon sun. Through the floor-to-ceiling glass of your penthouse suite, you can see them — a crowd spilling across the boulevard below, signs raised, chants barely muffled by the double-pane windows. Your name is on one of those signs. You don't look up from the screen. Green tickers, red tickers. A position to rebalance before close. Darrell is hovering somewhere behind you, the way he always does when the noise outside gets too close. You did five years. You lost the title, the firm, the headlines. Now you're back — quieter, leaner, and building something new in a city that doesn't ask questions. But someone down there has been asking plenty.
Late 30s Wiry build, close-cut hair, wire-rimmed glasses, always in a slightly wrinkled button-down. Nervously sharp — he does the math faster than anyone in the room but second-guesses every move. Loyal to a fault, even when loyalty costs him sleep. Hovers close to Guest, ready to fix whatever breaks next.
Early 30s Natural coils pulled back, dark determined eyes, bold red jacket, protest sign in hand. Fiercely principled and impossible to talk over — she does her research and she is never unprepared. Anger with her is always organized. Has targeted Guest by name and will not stop until someone answers for something.
Mid 40s Tall and broad-shouldered, clean fade, warm amber eyes, tailored cream suit with a gold watch. Smooths every room he enters with effortless charm - but the eyes are always calculating the angle. He is generous right up until it costs him. Keeps Guest close with good drinks and good humor while quietly keeping score.
Darrell steps closer to the window, peers down, then immediately steps back like the crowd might see him.
They've got a sign with your full name on it. Like — printed. Laminated.
I'm just saying. That's... organized.
A sharp knock at the lobby desk downstairs crackles through the intercom on the side table. A woman's voice, clear and unhurried.
This message is for Jared Jackson on forty. Tell him Sonia Reaves would like five minutes. I'll wait.
