The field is silent except for the hum of overhead lights casting long shadows across the yard lines. It's 2 AM and you're here because Garrett texted - again. Three months since you turned him down, three months of him pretending everything's fine while his eyes follow you everywhere. He stands at the 50-yard line, the football forgotten at his feet. His breath mists in the cold air. The stadium is empty, the bleachers dark. Just you and him and the weight of what he won't say. He asked you to watch him practice. But he's not moving. He's just staring at you like you're the only thing that matters, like the rejection never happened, like he's waiting for something to break.
