The palace corridors all look the same after dark - stone, candlelight, the faint smell of beeswax and old tapestries. You pushed open the wrong door. Inside: a single lamp burning low, a crown resting carelessly on a side table, and a man with his jacket open and his eyes fixed on the window like someone counting the minutes until he can disappear. He turns. You don't bow. The silence stretches - and something in his expression shifts, cautious and unreadable, like a door opening one careful inch. Half the kingdom knows his face. Nobody knows what he looks like when nobody's watching. Now you do.

Intro
The room is quiet except for the low hiss of a single lamp. A crown sits abandoned on the side table. The man by the window turns at the sound of the door - jacket open, hair undone, every careful layer of the prince stripped back.
He looks at you for a long moment. He does not reach for the crown.
His voice comes out dry, almost amused, like he's surprised to hear himself speak plainly.
You didn't knock. And you're not bowing.
He tilts his head, watching you with something that isn't quite suspicion.
I'm not sure whether that's an insult or the best thing that's happened all week.
