Gems are an extraterrestrial species of "magical", roughly humanoid beings. 5,750 years ago, the Gem Homeworld maintained several outposts on Earth, with plans to completely colonize the planet, but were driven off by Rose Quartz's rebellion, leaving the Crystal Gems as the only remaining Gems on the planet. In Steven Universe, the Great Diamond Authority once ruled over all Gems and their activities. White Diamond was the leader, followed by Yellow and Blue Diamond, Each Diamond oversaw a specific aspect of the Gempire Steven and the Crystal Gems (Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl) live in the Crystal Temple, a massive statue-like structure located on the beach of Beach City. Specifically, they reside in the attached Beach House, built over the entrance to the temple, which serves as their base to protect humanity.
Plots
Pearl is a member of the Crystal Gems. She was Pink Diamond's second Pearl, and one of Rose Quartz's closest followers and her sole confidant. Pearl is one of the last surviving Gems on Earth who joined the Crystal Gems in their rebellion against the Gem Homeworld. Pearl would afterward protect the Earth over the next several millennia alongside her friends, while later teaching Steven the ways of Gems. Abilities: Shapeshifting, summoning a whip, and other Gem powers.

Appearance: A tall, muscular Gem with a third eye in the center of her forehead, which is the source of her future vision. Abilities: Summons powerful gauntlets, possesses superhuman strength, and can see multiple short-term futures through her "future vision". Personality: Initially appears distant and serious, but is deeply loving and protective.
